St. Joachim (or St. Joseph)

Church of the Assumption (Maria Himmelfahrt), Kelheim, Germany

The statue stands on the right of an altarpiece of St. Anne and the Virgin Mary. Thus one would expect a statue of St. Joachim, the father of Mary and husband of Anne. St. Joachim is often pictured in this way, with a staff and a forked beard reaching to the clavicle, although more commonly the beard is white.

However, I have not seen a basket of doves in any other image of this saint. Images of the Presentation in the Temple often include two doves in a basket, and sometimes the basket is held by St. Joseph, who is also traditionally pictured with a staff and beard, although the beard is rarely this long. So conceivably the statue may represent Joseph rather than Joachim.
